Drawing from her background as a BSc Zoology honours graduate, Clare’s work reflects a deep understanding of animal anatomy and behaviour. Her paintings are the result of meticulous observation and experimentation, often incorporating natural materials like seaweed, sand, and driftwood — imbuing each piece with the tactile essence of the wild landscapes that inspire her.

The rugged coastlines, dynamic waves, and diverse marine life surrounding her home serve as a constant muse. Clare describes her creative process as inseparable from the elements themselves:

“My ocean paintings aren’t complete until I can taste the saltwater and hear the waves.”

Clare’s 2025 oil painting Sprezzatura – depicting a plunge of Gannets diving with effortless grace – was shortlisted for the prestigious Wildlife Artist of the Year Award in the “Into the Blue” category. The exhibition, known as the Oscar’s of wildlife art, held at the Mall Galleries in London, showcased 150 works selected from over 1,300 entries submitted by artists across 68 countries.

Whether depicting the silent grace of a hunting seabird, the stealth and cunning of an octopus or the abstract chaos of crashing waves, Clare’s paintings invite viewers to engage more deeply with the natural world. Her goal is to stir both awe and action:

“Each painting is an invitation to reflect on the beauty and complexity of nature. I hope my legacy will be that of a wildlife ‘artivist’ — inspiring conservation and a renewed sense of wonder for the world and the species within it.”

When not in the studio, Clare can often be found on, in, or under the sea – exploring with her young family and gathering fresh inspiration for her next piece.
